National Therapeutic Recreation Week
Observed on the second week of July since 1984, National Therapeutic Recreation Week was created by the National Therapeutic Recreation Society, with hopes to improve the overall health and well-being of individuals suffering from mental, physicals and emotional disabilities.
Recreational therapy is a prescribed recreation, or other activity used as a treatment intervention provided by a trained and certified healthcare professional. Examples of therapeutic recreation include adapted sports, pet therapy, expressive arts like creative writing, painting, and drawing. Progressive muscle relations, horticulture, or therapist outings designed for reintegration into community.
Therapist work with clients of all ages suffering from different debilitating conditions. Therapeutic recreation is extremely beneficial as it increases self-confidence, physical strength and improves overall frame of mind.
