Hepatitis Awareness Week
World Hepatitis Day is recognized annually on the 28th of July, the birthday of Dr. Baruch Blumberg, who first discovered the hepatitis B virus in 1967 and developed the first Hepatitis B vaccine just two years later.
Virial hepatitis are a group of diseases more commonly known as Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Hepatitis D, and Hepatitis E. These viral diseases kill one person every 30 seconds, cause more than one million deaths per year and lead to both acute and chronic liver disease. The best preventative measure against the viral hepatitis is getting your hepatitis A and B vaccines.
It is the hope of the CDC and World Health Organization to one day eliminate Viral Hepatitis in the United States and Worldwide.
